Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev presses a button on a touch-screen monitor in the control center of the Atasu-Alashenkou pipeline in Astana. Nazarbayev launched a new oil pipeline to China that will help fuel the booming Chinese economy and symbolizes Beijing's growing influence in the ex-Soviet Central Asia.
