British director Ken Loach waves as he arrives for the official screening of his film 'Bread and Roses' on Thursday, which is in competition for the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera. Loach is one of the rare Western directors still making political films, but the characters that sprinkle his works are hardly mere mouthpieces for his left-wing views.
