Cornell University: Ag Quad - The Ag Quad is close to the geographic center of the Cornell campus. Its buildings house a multitude of academic units in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Human Ecology, including the Department of Agricultural, Resource, and Managerial Economics; the Biometrics Unit and Statistics Center of the Department of Plant Breeding; the Department of Human Development and Family Studies; and the Department of Textiles and Apparel. Mann Library, in the right foreground, serves both colleges with extensive collections in agriculture, applied social sciences, and biology. In the distance is the southern tip of Cayuga Lake. These two colleges, along with the School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the College of Veterinary Medicine, are specialized units of the State University of New York (SUNY). A portion of their funding is supported by New York State tax dollars. click to open
Cornell University: Kennedy Hall - Kennedy Hall is a recent addition to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' Quadrangle. Here you'll find the college's offices, the Departments of Education, Communication, and Landscape Architecture (located in the attached Roberts Hall), and the popular dining hall, Trillium. Fresh salads, a long menu at the short-order grill, and freshly baked pastries make Trillium a great meeting place for breakfast or lunch. click to open
Cornell University: Biotechnology Building - The Biotechnology Building houses the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) in Biotechnology, where faculty members from genetics, veterinary medicine, chemistry, biological engineering, and a dozen other fields conduct research on a variety of life science-related projects. Hundreds of Cornell undergraduate students work in laboratories for academic credit, and are actively engaged in cutting-edge research. click to open
Cornell University: College of Veterinary Medicine - The College of Veterinary Medicine celebrated its centennial in 1994 and moved into this new Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Located near the east end of Cornell's Ithaca campus, the college is the world's largest and most advanced center for treatment and research in animal health. click to open
Cornell University: Fernow Hall - Bernhard Fernow established the nation's first college of forestry at Cornell in 1898. Fernow Hall now houses the Department of Natural Resources. Courses cover a broad range of conservation and environmental issues; students can elect to concentrate in the areas of fisheries, forestry, or wildlife. As with many disciplines at Cornell, environmental courses are not limited to a single department, but may be found in biology, government, law, philosophy, engineering, and architecture. click to open
Cornell University: Cornell Plantations - The pavilion on the bridge that crosses Cornell Plantations' Houston Pond is a great place to relax or feed the ducks. Cornell Plantations is the university's museum of living plants. Its arboretum, botanical gardens, and nature preserves include the Robison York State Herb Garden, a poisonous plant garden, a wildflower garden, and miles of trails that twist through its 2,900 acres. click to open
Cornell University: Beebe Lake - A waterfall cascades over the dam that separates the lower end of Beebe Lake from Fall Creek, and in the process generates some of the electric power for the campus. Trails around the lake are well worn by joggers and lovers alike. Overlooking the lake, and next to the north campus residences, Helen Newman Hall is a place to work out, swim, play basketball, fence, bowl, and learn the tango. click to open
Cornell University: Risley Hall - Risley Hall is one of ten residential program houses in the university's residential housing system. Such residence halls bring together students who share common interests, like foreign languages, ecology, or American Indian or African American culture. Risley, the creative and performing arts house, is harder to pin down. Its residents share a theatre, a printing press, and a metalworking shop, host open readings of music and poetry, and occasionally don their best medieval frocks for a boffing tourney. click to open
Cornell University: Fall Creek Gorge - Look down into Fall Creek Gorge from the Triphammer Bridge. The spectacular geology of the area made Ithaca a minor Hollywood in the days of silent films. Take time to stroll across the suspension bridge on campus and think about glaciers carving valleys in stone some 10,000 years ago, when the Northeast was buried under a mile-deep river of ice. click to open
Cornell University: Martha Van Rensselaer Hall - The College of Human Ecology calls Martha Van Rensselaer Hall its home. Programs in the college share a focus on responding to human needs. Research and teaching occur in many important areas, including nutrition, health care, social welfare, textiles, and the environment. click to open
